Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid season, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.
The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-term mentor Cervara.
Presently working with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Moutet.
This represents the player's maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since spring of 2023.
The win also means Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at 21 various tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my children at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," stated ranked player the champion.
"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.
Medvedev's defensive approach and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.
Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an enhanced serve.
He fought back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the final five points to take the lead.
Both players exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, took control to push for a final set.
He saved four early chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to close out the victory.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
